Giclee is a style of fine art, which incorporates the use of modern day printers, predominately 7-color to 12-color format ink jet printers and digital art work. The process is becoming more popular amongst modern day artists who regularly paint in digital format; hence there is no original artwork as such. It can also prove very beneficial to artists working on a tight budget, as they are able to reprint copies of the digital original on demand hence less wastage. The Giclee style is also being used to produce enhanced prints of older original artwork, which is digitally scanned as a starting point of the process.

The beauty of Giclee art is the fact that any digital artwork can be reproduced on a number of different media, including canvas and specialist papers giving a very professional look. The quality of todays printers is such that rather than the old dot patterns the flow of coloring and texture is very smooth, offering an excellent finish.

While the Giclee procedure can be transferred to any style and format of fine art, it has become particularly prevalent in the tropical regions, with Hawaiian Giclee prints becoming much sort after in the art world. While initially the Giclee format had received a luke warm welcome from the more traditional of the art world, it has now taken a firm place as a modern day art form. Galleries are now accepting Giclee artwork into their shows, and the collectors are showing a real interest, resulting in the emergence of a Giclee market place.

In an art world often set against any new styles or procedures, which go against the traditional methods, Giclee is starting to make a big name for itself and is becoming more and more popular. This really is a case of traditional art embracing modern technology.

Recently, the South by Southwest music, film, and interactive festival wrapped up after another successful year in Austin. Because it falls during spring break week, it has become my tradition to take a break from my teaching job to work for the festival at one of the music venues. It is always an interesting and enjoyable change of pace for me, and my students get a real kick out of imagining their teacher working at a club and reveling along with the music lovers and club hoppers. This year was no different.

The SXSW music festival draws over 1400 bands and more than 5000 music industry professionals to Austin, and that number doesnt even take into account those thousands attending the film and interactive festivals which run concurrently under the SXSW banner, and Austin welcomes them all with open arms. After all, the festival pumps a hefty $30 million into the local economy, and every year, the crowds grow. At least at this time of year, Austin rightfully deserves, and proves its status as The Live Music Capital of the World.

Austin boasts more live music venues per capita than any other city in the U.S., and clubs of all sizes, including a church, play host to bands from all over the world during the four-night music festival. The party officially kicks off on Wednesday night with Austins own version of the Grammys, The Austin Music Awards. Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, was a big winner, and Pete Townshend formerly of The Who, took the stage with fellow Brit, Ian McLagan, now a beloved Austin performer.

At my club on 6th Street, we showcased bands from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Amsterdam, and celebrated St. Patricks Day with Irish Music Night on Saturday. Without exception, the members of the bands and their entourages were excited about playing Austin and having the opportunity to be discovered by a producer or promoter, or picked up by a record label. One band member excitedly informed me that after their show, they were approached to collaborate on a major motion picture soundtrack! At least during SXSW, Austin is the city where dreams really can come true.

Up and down the 6th Street entertainment district and beyond, record executives checked their schedules and hurried from club to club, munching chopped barbeque sandwiches and checking out the artists, who ranged from acoustic singer/songwriters to outrageously-dressed and spikey-coiffed punks and heavy metal screamers clad in their inevitable black garb.

Early one night, a nicely dressed middle-aged couple approached me to ask if they could buy a ticket for the show. You must have a son or daughter performing, I smiled, because they were definitely not your typical club hopper. Naturally, their son was playing, and the proud parents had followed him to Austin for the show and a mini-vacation all the way from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That day had been beautiful, with the temperature hovering near 80, and we chatted for a while about their visit, and what they had seen and done while in Austin. The couple was exuberant in their praise and promised that next year they would be back for a longer vacation and would definitely be bringing friends.

Later that evening, a woman from the UK dropped in to thank me for recommending Marias Taco Express, one of my favorite haunts, and invited me to an after-hours private party in a hotel penthouse nearby. I thanked her, but had to decline, because this golden carriage that is SXSW has to turn back into a pumpkin by Monday morning, and I had some lesson plans to write.

Whether the party is for a kid or for an adult one thing is certain, all birthdays are special! And planning a birthday party is harder than it sounds. Its more than just making a guest list and buying the birthday boy or girl a present. Its about making the day special as it should be, and memorable, and birthdays are the perfect time to show a person how much they mean. With all of those things in mind the next time you walk into a birthday party and see the lights, balloons, streamers or if you notice that the napkins match the plates, remember that someone spent a lot of time and money to get even the smallest detail right so that a loved one can have a great birthday celebration. Who knows, maybe one day youll be the one having to throw a birthday bash! So heres everything you need to know about birthdays parties and decorating.

You know who your friends are and you know that family members will show up for the big day, so now you have an idea of how many people will be at this shindig. You call a caterer or visit the grocery store and get the things that you would like (and other too) to serve at the party. So within, give or take, two days you have gotten the easy parts done. Now its time to delve into the real trouble-maker behind any birthday party; decorating.

Now you may not think decorating is much of a big deal, after all they are just a bunch of streamers and balloons right? Wrong, every individual ornament or piece of decoration used usually contributes to the overall theme of a birthday party. And yes birthday parties, even ones for adults, have themes. And the theme you choose for the birthday party will help you determine what kind of decorations you will need, what style of decorations will compliment the area in which you are having the party and the color or combination of colors that the decorations should be.

At this point you should think about getting the most anticipated item of any birthday party and possibly the only decoration that a party cannot survive without, and that is the birthday cake. The cake can be as elaborate as you can afford or as modest, but what is most important is that the cake not only matches the other decorations and general theme of the party, but the cake should also reflect something of the birthday boy or girl.

Once a theme is chosen and you know the decorations you want to use, the next task is putting the decorations up in the most appropriate and flattering place. This may take a while and several opinions before the right spot is found for a particular set of decorations. But the work and decorating are not over just yet, because whatever food or candy you are offering your guests has to be conveniently available, as well as plates, cups and napkins. Remember, when serving anything edible always be sure to use clean dishes, and use dishes and serving trays that will make the food or snacks on them seem delectable.

Other negligible factors will depend solely on the age of the birthday person and the likes/dislikes of the same are dress code, alcohol, music (DJ or home stereo) and of course, the time the party is scheduled to start and its subsequent end. Above all, the ultimate goal is to ensure that the birthday person is having a great time and your guests are treated well. So birthday parties, though they often run smoothly and easily, are much more complicated than you might think, and the only reason birthday parties seem so easy to pull off on the surface is because someone is doing a lot of work below deck.

As a long time fan of Slayer it is my pleasure to get to say a few good words about them. They formed in 1982 in Huntington Beach, CA by Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Early on they sounded a lot like Judas Priest, especially the album Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits. After signing with Rick Rubin they released their land mark album Reign in Blood featuring the songs Angel of Death and Raining Blood. The level of musicianship that Slayer has always shown surpasses any band in their genre. Reigning Blood is one of the defining hardcore/slash metal along with Metallicas Master of Puppets and DRIs Dirty Rotten Imbeciles.

Prime Cuts

Because Slayer is one of my favorite bands it is hard to pick which songs I think you should listen to first. One of my personal favorites is Angel of Death. The first track of the Reign in Blood album, gives you a good idea of their overall style with other songs such as Ghosts of War from their next album South of Heaven. Also from South of Heaven the song Behind the Crooked Cross and much later the song Catalyst from Slayers new release Christ Illusion.

If you like Slayer and want to find bands of a similar style, I recommend Lamb of God and their album As the Palaces Burn. If you like their earlier stuff better than their later stuff, I recommend Iron Maidens album Power Slave. The Canadian Metal Band Voivod and their album Dimension Hatross is another good album to pick if you enjoy Slayer.

Information: Slayer formed in 1982 with members Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitar), Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums). Their albums include Show No Mercy Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, Divine Intervention, Undisputed Attitude, Diabolus in Musica and God Hates Us All.

Bill Gates to Devote Life To Charity; Make Money And You Can, Too

Bill Gates announced that he will transition out of his day-to-day role at Microsoft by July 2008 in order to spend more time working on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which focuses on global health and education.

His announcement reminded us of the plethora of graduation speeches that eager students imbibed across the land this spring. As we listened to the meritorious goals heaped on the recent graduates, so they might achieve goals the speakers generation has found impossible, we could not help but think, why doesnt somebody come out and tell the youthful aspirants what the real challenge is?

Like it or not, todays world, as well as many another age, is conducted by two primary forces: wealth and power, and, other than resort to firearms, power springs from wealth.

So if you want to influence the ways of this outrageously necessitous world, consider the stark truth that all power springs from the opening in a fat wallet. It’s called the economic basis of society but, in its current incarnation, in debilitating excess.

When we were recent graduates, we were not aware of such an uncompromising reality and passed up at least two opportunities to make megabucks because we wanted to preserve our mental energy to expend it toward the achievement of our ideals.

Had we been wiser, we would have set aside a few years to stuff our pockets with power and then, like Mr. Gates, have spent the rest of our days placidly pursuing those still-inspiriting ideals.

So we find ourselves, from our own experience, in the unlikely role of advising the most idealistic to enable their altruism by involving themselves, initially, in the activity they undoubtedly are convinced is not the most inviting.

Then, should you be fortunate enough to enable your financial independence, you may, like Mr. Gates, head off into full-time devotion to your undoubtedly meritorious idealisms.

Well, the speech probably would not have been one that would have inspired the administration to invite us back or that the students would have received with endorsement, but the sharp glass on the road through economic necessity is a fact not lightly to be dismissed. Ignore it and you may step on it with painful frequency.

When Survivor appeared on CBS for the first time, it quickly became a topic of conversation around water coolers everywhere. Even people who didnt watch the show couldnt escape conversations about which castaway would be voted off the island next. Today, there are dozens of reality shows that offer to turn everyday people into chefs, actors, singing stars, brides or grooms, millionaires, and almost anything else you can imagine.

And while people make the obligatory negative remarks about reality TV, many harbor secret addictions to one show or another. What makes reality TV so popular? There are probably several factors.

First, reality TV participants come from all walks of life. Whether youre gay or straight, male or female, Christian or Buddhist, Black or white, it is easy to turn on reality TV and spot someone like yourself whisked away into an adventurous or luxurious lifestyle. We experience a vicarious thrill seeing ordinary people like us compete for fabulous prizes. And, if you are being absolutely honest, you have to admit that youve sometimes thought, I could do that!

Another reason people enjoy reality TV is the suspense. On most shows, each episode finds another participant being eliminated until there is only one player left standing. We agonize with our favorite players as they endure challenges and hardships, hold our breaths when it looks like they may be on the chopping block, and breathe a sigh of relief when they squeak by for one more week.

Watching reality TV also gives us an avenue to communicate with acquaintances and co-workers. As the second season of American Idol drew to a close, for instance, you could start a conversation with a complete stranger simply by asking, So, is it going to be Clay or Ruben?

Still another reason reality TV is popular may have to do with certain socioeconomic factors. With so many people in debt, the cost of living consistently outstripping peoples paychecks, relatively high unemployment, and wars being fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, reality TV gives people something less threatening to focus on. It may even help people feel better about their own lives. I may have it bad, some viewers think, but at least Im not wearing filthy clothes and eating insects. Or, I may have had a bad day of work, but at least the entire viewing public isnt watching Simon Cowell blast my singing voice.

Finally, reality TV initially had a strong viewing because it was something unique. Audiences in the United States were used to watching television actors deliver scripted lineswe were completely unprepared for a show without a script featuring real people engaged in real competition. The real live cat fights, backbiting, and scheming delighted wide eyed viewers.

Of course, from the beginning there were a few dissenting voices claiming that reality TV was somewhat less than real. Furthermore, familiarity has begun to breed contempt. The second installment of Survivor, for instance, was the most watched series of the 2000-2001 TV series. Survivor China, the fifteenth installment in the Survivor series, is ranked number eleven among the current fall lineup. Other reality TV shows have seen similar rating drops as their novelty faded.

But even if reality TV is no longer quite as robust as it once was, it is far from dead. New reality TV concepts are pitched every season, and millions of fans continue to tune in to watch their favorite reality programs. For all the reasons discussed above, reality TV is definitely here to stay.

If you pay any attention to some of the advertising taking place on television, you will notice a very nasty and brutal war being waged by cable and satellite companies. Vying for a multi-billion dollar market that continues to grow each year, the satellite and cable companies definitely have a lot to gainor loseas a result of this war. While both sides offer certain advantages over their competition, the simple fact is that Dish Network and the satellite technology it employs is destined to win this war. Why?

First of all, lets address the two main complaints or arguments made by the cable companies regarding satellite technology. The biggest and most commonly portrayed weakness of Dish Network is that customers lose reception during storms. Actually, the cable companies tend to dramatize this weakness but they still have a valid point. During rough storms and bad weather, it is very possible that you will lose reception temporarily. However, the same is true of cable reception although it does not happen as often. Fortunately, however, Dish Network continues to invest in better technology and has made drastic improvements in recent years and the time is drawing close when weather will cease interrupting your favorite programming.

The second main complaint about Dish Network is that local channels are either not offered or cost subscribers a premium. Again, a valid point. However, how many of us really watch local channels anyway? Even if it is conceded that this is truly a disadvantage for DishNetwork subscribers, the benefits of the service still far outweigh this minor inconvenience.

Simply put: Dish Network offers far more channels than any standard cable service. The variety alone more than compensates for the loss of local channels. But, variety is only the beginning!

Dish Network offers a host of benefits to its customers such as free things like TiVo, up to four tv connections, and in most casesfree installation. And.all of this can be had for less than you will payfor basic cable service.

And then there is the customer service benefit to Dish Network subscribers. How many times have you been inconvenienced by some impersonal and unsympathetic customer service rep from the cable company telling you that you had to be available between 8-5 p.m. during the work week in order to get your service repaired? Heck, how many times have you even got through the automated system to an actual human in less than twenty minutes when dealing with the cable company?

With Dish Network, you get through to a human immediately and they fix the problem promptly without inconveniencing you to the point of having to take a day off of work to get your service back up and running. Plus, Dish Network allows customers to access and pay their bills online so there are never any surprises at the end of the month as can be the case with cable companies. Finally, in poll after poll, Dish Network subscribers continually give the company higher customer service marks than the average local cable company. Instead of being treated like a number, Dish Network customers are treated like people.

Lastly, Dish Network is simply the future. The cable companies are trying desperately to hold on to their business but the fact remains that they are fighting a losing battle. The reception problem is their last straw and Dish Network is working daily to end that irritation for its customers. With more channels, lower prices, and better customer serviceis there any doubt that Dish Network is simply better?

Bill Clinton In Secret Talks With Hillary; Agrees To Run For Vice President

Former President Bill Clinton has been holding secret talks with his wife and wannabe President Hillary and has, the rumor mill informs us, agreed to be her Vice Presidential candidate.

In an exclusive interview, he confided, Even though I want to help Hillary in every way I can, it wasn’t an easy decision. After all, if you remember, I was the President. But, since Ill be back in the White House, I decided I would rather have more to keep myself busy than just being Americas First Man.”

So, as 2008 draws nigh and the inevitable blizzard of questions to her on who she hopes to name as her running mate go discreetly unanswered, just remember you heard it here first that the resourceful husband and wife team plan to make another run for the White House.

Given the current state of Americas feelings about the comeuppances of the Republican tenure, there is actually a very high likelihood that the dedicated duo could once again be frolicking in the realms of Presidential empowerment. Only this time we would, of course, have President Hillary Clinton and Vice President Bill Clinton.

While Democrats cheer, Republicans may double over with wails of dread, while they reach out with hopeful hands for the now-flirtatious Rudy or the ever-coy Jeb.

DishTV offers a great combination of high quality digital broadcasts and a large array of programming choices and receiver choices to bring you the best possible television viewing experience. With a focus on innovation and maximum choices, Dish Network is quickly becoming the most popular satellite service provider in America.

Dishnetwork realizes the importance of offering the latest technology to its customers and currently offers the best HDTV programming selection available. HDTV is an important new television format that increases the picture resolution by about 10 times and offers Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound to make the sound as realistic as possible. It also lets you view programming in a wide-screen format so you can see more of the action. DishTV leads the way in providing HDTV by offering a couple of HD receiver models and over 29 HD channels. With a Dishnetwork HD package, you can watch programs that include sports, movies, news, general entertainment, cartoons, arts, fashion and culture.

Dishnetwork also offers DVR technology to its customers. With a DVR, you can use the electronic program guide to select shows to record and store up to 200 hours of programming in digital format. If you have a HD receiver with DVR, you can even store up to 30 hours of HD programming. Plus, if you must leave the room while watching a live program, with a DVR you can pause or rewind the show so you don’t miss anything.

Even if you opt for Dishnetwork’s most basic receiver, you will still be able to take advantage of some pretty great technologies. The on-screen program guide makes it easy to see what it playing for up to 2 days in the future and bookmarks, browse functions and favorites lists let you easily sort through the hundreds of channels. If you have young children in your home, you will want to use the parental controls which let you choose which programming your children can watch. These also let you block pay per view channels so your children can’t bankrupt you when you walk out of the room.

Along with great technology, Dishnet offers tons of programming choices. America’s Top 60, Top 120 and Top 180 programming packages are a perfect match for most families. Each one brings you a great assortment of channels including news, children’s stations, comedy, sports, shopping and education.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could find more time for some of our favorite things. For me it’s curling up on the couch with a really good thriller like a Stephen King novel or one of the more heart breaking romances by Danielle Steel.

In this busy world we live in, it can be hard to find that kind of time. But what if you could have someone read to you your favorite piece of literature. And if the spoken words were on your MP3 Player, IPOD or even burned on a CD you could listen anytime you wanted anywhere. While commuting to work, doing you household chores or even hanging out with friends. Now you can. Downloadable Audiobooks are making this possible and it is so easy to do. Thousands of titles are available for instant download including the latest best sellers such as the Dan Brown horror and Suspense Angels and Demons.

For children it can stimulate eagerness to learn. By listening to audio books children are presented with an opportunity to hear language thereby providing them with models for the correct use of grammar and also giving them the chance to hear the correct pronunciation of new or difficult words. Listening to stories is still a great way to spend quality time together as a family and it has been shown to improve a child’s conversation skills and to encourage them to express themselves.

Buying audiobooks is a simple process with immediate results. No waiting for your books to arrive, no returns to the library. Simply browse your favorite category, choose your audiobook, pay, instantly download and enjoy listening to the professional narrative at your convenience. Some websites also offer you samplings of the readings for you to listen to as well as short How To instructional videos about the process. Its as Easy as 1-2-3 !
